Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 13×9-inch baking sheet or pan.
  2. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set it aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, using an electric mixer or stand mixer, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, which should take about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  6. Pour the cake batter into the prepared baking sheet or pan and spread it out evenly.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Make sure not to overbake, as a sheet cake should be moist.
  8. While the cake is baking, prepare the vanilla buttercream frosting. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Beat until the frosting is smooth and creamy.
  9. Once the cake is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Once the cake has cooled, spread the vanilla buttercream frosting evenly over the top. You can add decorative touches with a spatula or piping bag, if desired.
  11. Slice the sheet cake into 24 squares or rectangles, and serve. Enjoy your delicious classic vanilla sheet cake!

Pro Tip: You can customize your sheet cake by adding sprinkles, chocolate chips, or fresh fruit to the batter before baking. Additionally, consider coloring the frosting to match the theme of your event or personal preference.
