Instructions:
1. Prepare the Caramel Layer:
- In a small saucepan, combine the granulated sugar and water over medium heat.
- Stir until the sugar has dissolved, then let it simmer without stirring.
- Continue cooking until the mixture turns into a golden caramel, swirling the pan occasionally.
- Pour the caramel into the bottom of a 9-inch fluted tube pan (bundt pan). Tilt the pan to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool and harden.
2. Make the Flan Layer:
- In a blender, combine the eggs, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla extract.
- Blend until smooth.
- Gently pour the flan mixture over the cooled caramel layer in the pan. Set aside.
3. Prepare the Chocolate Cake Layer:
- In a medium-sized mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, vegetable oil, egg, and vanilla extract.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until the batter is smooth.
4. Assemble the Chocoflan:
- Carefully pour the chocolate cake batter over the flan layer in the pan. The two layers will switch places during baking.
- Cover the pan with aluminum foil.
5. Bake:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Place the fluted tube pan inside a larger roasting pan.
- Fill the roasting pan with hot water until it reaches about halfway up the sides of the fluted tube pan.
- Carefully transfer the whole setup to the preheated oven.
- Bake for 45-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the chocolate cake comes out clean.
- Remove from the oven and let the Chocoflan cool to room temperature.
6. Unmold and Serve:
- Once the Chocoflan has cooled, refrigerate it for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- To unmold, run a knife around the edges of the pan to loosen the Chocoflan.
- Place a serving plate over the top of the pan and quickly invert it to release the dessert. The caramel will create a beautiful sauce that drizzles over the cake.
- Slice and serve the Homemade Chocoflan. Enjoy!
This Homemade Chocoflan is a delightful combination of creamy flan and rich chocolate cake. It’s sure to impress your friends and family at any gathering.
