Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for some heat)
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes, undrained
- 2 cups beef broth
- 2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions:
1. Brown the Beef:
- In a large skillet or Dutch oven, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat. Break it up with a spatula and cook until it’s no longer pink.
2. Add Aromatics:
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the beef. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the onion is translucent and the garlic is fragrant.
3. Seasoning:
- Stir in the dried oregano, dried basil, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Mix well to evenly distribute the flavors.
4. Sauce Mixture:
- Pour in the tomato sauce and diced tomatoes with their juice. Stir to combine everything in the skillet.
5. Broth and Pasta:
- Add the beef broth to the skillet and bring the mixture to a simmer. Once simmering, stir in the uncooked elbow macaroni. Cook for about 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pasta is tender and has absorbed most of the liquid.
6. Cheese, Please:
- Reduce the heat to low, and add the shredded mozzarella cheese. Stir until the cheese is melted and well combined.
7. Parmesan Finish:
- Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the top of the mixture. Cover the skillet and let it sit for a couple of minutes until the Parmesan is melted.
8. Garnish and Serve:
- Remove from heat and let it rest for a few minutes. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley for a burst of freshness.
