Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, cream cheese, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the vanilla extract and continue mixing.
- Incorporate Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms. Be careful not to overmix.
- Chill the Dough: Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour. Chilling the dough will make it easier to handle and prevent excessive spreading during baking.
- Shape the Cookies: After chilling, take small portions of the dough and roll them into balls. Place the balls on the prepared baking sheets, leaving enough space between each.
- Make an Indentation: Use your thumb or the back of a spoon to make an indentation in the center of each cookie. Make sure not to press too hard, leaving a well for the filling.
- Add Fruit Preserves: Spoon a small amount of fruit preserves into each indentation. Choose your favorite flavor or mix it up for a variety of Kolache Cookies.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. Keep an eye on them to prevent over-baking.
- Cool and Dust (Optional): Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. If desired, dust with powdered sugar for a finishing touch.
- Serve and Enjoy: Serve these delightful Kolache Cookies with your favorite hot beverage or share them with friends and family. Enjoy the delicious combination of buttery, flaky dough and sweet fruit filling!
These Kolache Cookies are perfect for holiday gatherings, tea time, or any occasion where you want to treat yourself to a delightful homemade sweet.
