Instructions:
1. Bolognese Sauce:
- In a large skillet or Dutch oven, brown the ground beef and Italian sausage over medium heat.
- Add chopped onions, carrots, celery, and minced garlic. Cook until vegetables are softened.
- Pour in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and red wine. Stir in dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper.
- Simmer the sauce over low heat for at least 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
2. Bechamel Sauce:
- In a separate saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add flour and whisk continuously to form a roux.
- Gradually pour in the milk, whisking constantly to avoid lumps.
- Cook until the sauce thickens, then season with salt and a pinch of nutmeg.
3. Lasagna Assembly:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of Bolognese sauce.
- Place a layer of cooked lasagna noodles over the sauce.
- Spread a portion of Bolognese sauce, followed by a layer of bechamel sauce, and sprinkle with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
- Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of bechamel sauce and a generous sprinkle of cheese.
4. Baking:
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Allow the lasagna to rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
5. Serving:
- Serve the lasagna bolognese with a side salad and garlic bread for a complete meal.
