Instructions:

1. Bolognese Sauce:

  • In a large skillet or Dutch oven, brown the ground beef and Italian sausage over medium heat.
  • Add chopped onions, carrots, celery, and minced garlic. Cook until vegetables are softened.
  • Pour in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and red wine. Stir in dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper.
  • Simmer the sauce over low heat for at least 1 hour, stirring occasionally.

2. Bechamel Sauce:

  • In a separate saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add flour and whisk continuously to form a roux.
  • Gradually pour in the milk, whisking constantly to avoid lumps.
  • Cook until the sauce thickens, then season with salt and a pinch of nutmeg.

3. Lasagna Assembly:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of Bolognese sauce.
  • Place a layer of cooked lasagna noodles over the sauce.
  • Spread a portion of Bolognese sauce, followed by a layer of bechamel sauce, and sprinkle with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  • Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of bechamel sauce and a generous sprinkle of cheese.

4. Baking:

  • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  • Allow the lasagna to rest for 10 minutes before slicing.

5. Serving:

  • Serve the lasagna bolognese with a side salad and garlic bread for a complete meal.
