Instructions:

  1. Brown the Ground Beef:
    • In a large Dutch oven or heavy pot, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat until browned. Break it apart with a spatula as it cooks.
  2. Sauté Vegetables:
    • Add diced onion, minced garlic, green bell pepper, and red bell pepper to the pot. Sauté until the vegetables are softened.
  3. Add Seasonings:
    • Stir in dried oregano, dried basil, smoked paprika, and red pepper flakes (if using). Season with salt and pepper to taste. Mix well to combine the flavors.
  4. Incorporate Tomatoes and Tomato Paste:
    • Pour in the diced tomatoes (with their juices) and tomato paste. Stir to combine with the meat and vegetables.
  5. Add Broth and Macaroni:
    • Pour in the beef broth and add the uncooked elbow macaroni to the pot. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  6. Simmer Until Macaroni is Cooked:
    • Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes or until the macaroni is tender. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  7. Serve and Garnish:
    • Once the macaroni is cooked, taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve the American Goulash hot, topped with shredded cheddar cheese and chopped fresh parsley.
  8. Enjoy:
    • This hearty American Goulash is perfect for a comforting family dinner. Serve with crusty bread or a simple green salad for a complete meal.
