Instructions:
- Brown the Ground Beef:
- In a large Dutch oven or heavy pot, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat until browned. Break it apart with a spatula as it cooks.
- Sauté Vegetables:
- Add diced onion, minced garlic, green bell pepper, and red bell pepper to the pot. Sauté until the vegetables are softened.
- Add Seasonings:
- Stir in dried oregano, dried basil, smoked paprika, and red pepper flakes (if using). Season with salt and pepper to taste. Mix well to combine the flavors.
- Incorporate Tomatoes and Tomato Paste:
- Pour in the diced tomatoes (with their juices) and tomato paste. Stir to combine with the meat and vegetables.
- Add Broth and Macaroni:
- Pour in the beef broth and add the uncooked elbow macaroni to the pot. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
- Simmer Until Macaroni is Cooked:
- Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes or until the macaroni is tender. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Serve and Garnish:
- Once the macaroni is cooked, taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve the American Goulash hot, topped with shredded cheddar cheese and chopped fresh parsley.
- Enjoy:
- This hearty American Goulash is perfect for a comforting family dinner. Serve with crusty bread or a simple green salad for a complete meal.
