Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Caramel Topping

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
  3. Add the brown sugar to the melted butter, stirring continuously until the sugar dissolves.
  4. Pour the caramel mixture into the bottom of a greased 9-inch round cake pan, ensuring an even coating.

Step 2: Arrange the Apples

  1. Place the sliced apples on top of the caramel layer in a decorative pattern. Set aside.

Step 3: Prepare the Cake Batter

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. Set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the granulated sugar and softened butter until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.

Step 4: Assemble and Bake

  1. Carefully spread the cake batter over the arranged apples in the cake pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  3. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes.
  4. Run a knife around the edges of the pan to loosen the cake, then invert it onto a serving plate, allowing the caramel and apples to become the top of the cake.

Step 5: Serve and Enjoy!

  1. Slice and serve the Caramel Apple Upside Down Cake while it’s still warm.
  2. Optional: Garnish with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an extra treat.

Enjoy the delightful combination of moist cake, gooey caramel, and sweet apples in this Caramel Apple Upside Down Cake!
