Instructions:
For Biscuits:
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
- Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Make a well in the center and pour in the buttermilk. Stir until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times. Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick rectangle.
- Use a biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits and place them on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown on top.
For Gravy:
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage until browned and cooked through, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
- Sprinkle the flour over the sausage and stir to combine, cooking for 1-2 minutes to eliminate the raw flour taste.
- Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue to cook and stir until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
- Season the gravy with salt and black pepper to taste. Reduce heat and let it simmer for a few more minutes until it reaches your desired consistency.
Assembly:
- Split the warm biscuits in half.
- Ladle the creamy sausage gravy over the biscuits.
- Serve immediately and enjoy the best-ever biscuits and gravy!
Note:
- Feel free to customize the recipe by adding herbs or spices to the biscuit dough or adjusting the seasoning in the gravy.
